THERMOWOOD – SUSTAINABLE WOOD
At Lunawood, this high-quality material is turned into Thermowood through a process of thermal modification. The high quality of Lunawood products is based on the selection of the best certified pine and spruce wood, which we will process into beautiful, durable Thermowood. In order to guarantee the high quality of our professional wood types, we only use carefully selected, healthy parts of the tree.
THERMAL MODIFICATION
The patented production process is based on the gradual thermal modification of the wood, causing the chemical and physical properties to undergo a permanent transformation. The process itself consists of nothing more than water vapour and heat; chemicals are not used. After thermal modification, the wood has a warm brown colour and is 4 – 7 % dry, resin-free and keeps its shape. Most importantly though, its durability has been changed from class 4 (not durable) to class 2 (durable).

De Kwakel – Villa Vuurlijn – 2019
This villa is located on a ‘private’ island, and offers the residents every possible luxury. Dark stained Lunawood was chosen for the cladding, which was stained again afterwards so the colour of the wood looks very black. This particular shade makes the villa blend in even more with its surroundings (photo: Arjen Hoogeveen).
Eindhoven – Waterrijk Meerhoven – 2019
For this small-scale project of only four houses, a sleek facade of untreated Lunawood has been selected. The wood has been made more durable and will become more grey naturally over time. The frames have a contrasting dark grey finish for a special effect.

ECOLOGICALLY SUSTAINABLE
No chemicals are used in the production process, which gives it a high-quality ecological foundation. If correctly applied, heat and steam are sufficient to turn wood into a durable and impressive facade material. At the end of its lifespan, Thermowood being a completely natural product, can be turned into bioenergy and is fully recyclable.
